First week back - Term 2

The first week back has been awesome! I definitely missed being in the classroom over the holidays, and it seems the children did too! They came back with so much enthusiasm for their learning, I was very impressed! We had some fantastic class discussions centred around ANZAC day, the poppy and dawn parades - the children really listened and understood why we have ANZAC day and the importance of remembering. I tried to link their discussions around the soldiers being hero's, to their writing about Superhero's - in particular what the children would be like if they were each a superhero. This topic bought about the most amazing writing I have seen so far! Room 5 students were very engaged, focused and excited about this writing topic and I was very impressed. If you would like to see the published result of their writing, it is now displayed in the classroom - come in and have a look!

We also created ANZAC day poppies! This was a difficult art session as it involved lots of paint - which doesn't go too well with clothing. All in all, the children did really well and the results are awesome! They created some sunset and some blue sky poppy pictures which we intend to show at assembly on Wednesday.

They turned out amazing! So proud of Room 5!!

Easter in Room 5

The kids really enjoyed Easter in Room 5! We spent the week making bean bag Easter bunnies (pictured below). Each child put their own unique spin on their bunny (including zombie bunnies and alien bunnies) and enjoyed making something they could take home and treasure. (I'm not too sure how many bunnies are still in tact after the holidays though!)

We also did an Easter Egg hunt around the classroom. I hid plastic Easter Eggs filled with small chocolate eggs in various hard to find places (chocolate is definitely a motivator for accomplishing tasks though, those eggs were found fairly quickly!). The kids had also made small baskets to hold their Easter Eggs in, which helped in their Easter Egg hunt.

Our gorgeous wee Easter Bunnies the children made - they did such a fantastic job!

The children were very excited to have found all of the hidden Easter Eggs!
