The past few weeks

We got some fantastic new maths games/activities for the children to do independently while I am working with a group.  Check out how engaged Room 5 are in their mathematical learning :)

We learnt a great new strategy involving rounding to the nearest 10. The children had lots of fun using the whiteboard table and making a "jellybean" in their equations.

The PTA kindly funraised for us and we welcomed some new keyboards for our iPads. The kids loved the extra device available to publish their writing on.

The children also enjoyed some soccer in the sun. Excited for Spring :)

Wheels Day

Wheels Day was so much fun! The children were able to bring any small wheels ride to school and 2 different tracks were set up around the school. They were able to ride all over the decks, courts and in the teachers car park. Feedback from the children indicated that they would love wheels day everyday!! It was nice to see them getting lots of exercise and having a blast!

Maths

For the first 2 weeks of term we focused on probability as our strand for the term. We did things such as roll dice and predict the outcome, play memory games and see if there was a trend, play dice games with a buddy and discussed the language used in probability as a class. This was lots of fun. Now we are focusing on addition and subtraction. Below are some photos of last weeks Maths lessons, the Rectangles are focusing on place value and creating bundles of 10 to help them with addition. This was the first time the concept was introduced to them and they did fantastically! The Triangles and Squares are focusing on doing addition problems in their heads, not using fingers or counters. This is the biggest step in their mathematical learning and will enable them to move from Stage 2 to Stage 3 once they have mastered this skill.

Soccer

Soccer with Shane is always lots of fun! The children's skills are growing and they can now confidently handle the ball by kicking it to a partner and stopping it with the foot.

Buddy class

Our first buddy class back after the holidays and the children had lots of fun! After they had read 3 stories with their buddies, Room 5 were allowed to choose 1 class activity to teach to their older buddies. This was a great success and it was nice to see their confidence grow as they were the teachers for a change. Room 7 are excellent buddies and Room 5 always look forward to Fridays.
